Google Showing Site Owner; Your Page Is Not Mobile-Friendly In Search Results

Google Showing Site Owner; Your Page Is Not Mobile-Friendly In Search Results | Digital Marketing News | Scoop.it
Jennifer Slegg noticed on one of her older sites that Google is showing a notification directly in the mobile search results for the site that the site is not mobile friendly. The message Google shows in the snippet is
AMIRE Strategic Digital Marketing's insight:

Google is giving site owners a heads up regarding whether or not their site is mobile friendly. They di this by adding a label stating so in the search results.

Interestingly the message "Your page is not mobile-friendly" appears only for the owner of the site. Users seeing the same result won't see this message which is great as it will most likely have an affect on your click through rate.

The question is, will Google show that message to the public at some point?

Google: SEOs Are Wrong, 302 Redirects Pass PageRank

Google: SEOs Are Wrong, 302 Redirects Pass PageRank | Digital Marketing News | Scoop.it
On Twitter @dhinckley said that according to Moz over here, 302 redirects pass zero
AMIRE Strategic Digital Marketing's insight:

The "...are 302s handled the same as 301s in passing equity?" has reared it's ugly head again.

Search Engine Roundtable has called out a statement from last month by John Mueller, who stated that 302s do infact pass on PageRank, but questioned the idea of the passing of "link juice".

There's still the question on what the best practice is regardless of this, and more importantly how this is relayed to site owners.

Personally I'm glad to see the PageRank score of the toolbar removed. It's rarely updated and sometimes broken. The best part is, this may stop people from worrying about their 2/10 rank ;)

Alternative search engines are often overlooked when it comes to SEO so we take a look at how you should be optimising for non-google SEO
AMIRE Strategic Digital Marketing's insight:

Upon initial inspection you'd think that there would be some technique highlighted that's intrinsically non-Google. Whilst there were a couple of non-Google tips, the bottom line is that for the most part tactical SEO shares similarities across all search engines: Links and content (no surprise!).

The non-Google tips (which would work for Google as well) are:

What Big Brands Need to Know About Google's Filter

What Big Brands Need to Know About Google's Filter | Digital Marketing News | Scoop.it
If you do SEO for a brand that has multiple locations and offices, you'll want to pay attention. Using Google's &filter=0 could make the difference in your local SEO management.
AMIRE Strategic Digital Marketing's insight:

Well, Christmas holidays are officially over!

We've come across this post on the Moz blog which is quite interesting relating to local search.

As we all know Google will filter out/dampen duplicate content from the same site. When it comes to brands that have many local locations it is imperitive that pages, such as office/people profiles, are quite unique so that they can preform as well as others.

If content on those pages is at all similar, only those with higher authority (and more links) make it to the top.

How To Build Author Rank Without Google Authorship

How To Build Author Rank Without Google Authorship | Digital Marketing News | Scoop.it
Google's Authorship program may be dead, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't work on building your authority. Columnist Tony Edward explains.
AMIRE Strategic Digital Marketing's insight:

Google Authorship is D-E-A-D, or is it? When the idea of Authoirship was removed from the table in August 2014, most probably stopped trying for it via the author mark-up once recommneded by Google.

However, there is the notion that while authorship is dead, athour rank is not. What's telling is the advice to leave authorship code on the page, and that Google has begun to sunset Google+ - wait, what???

Google App Streaming: A Big Move In Building "The Web Of Apps"

Google App Streaming: A Big Move In Building "The Web Of Apps" | Digital Marketing News | Scoop.it
A world where you can search through and move between apps as easily as with the web? Google's new app streaming service may usher this in.
AMIRE Strategic Digital Marketing's insight:

We've really been enjoying app store optimisation for some of our clients. The idea of deep linking, searching and 'traveling' between apps is the stuff fantasy's are made of ;) Not so!

Google (of course) is making inroads in the ability to search and move through different apps easily by streaming the app content. Meaning, you wouldn't have to actually download the app itself.

This is all being tested with a select set of publishers, in the US and on specific Android phones, but this is most definately a space to watch.

The Best Google Alternatives For Search and Everything Else | Digital Marketing News | Scoop.it
At Raven, we love Google but we also love choice. Here are the best Google alternatives for email, search, analytics, ads, docs, and everything else.
AMIRE Strategic Digital Marketing's insight:

Not always a fan of Google? Look, they have market share everywhere - search, email, cloud, video etc.

We know there are alternatives, but how many do we use? Why would we use something other than Google?

This article neatly lays out alternatives o most Goolge services and lists the pros and cons. For instance, I like Duck Duck Go. It's not a widely known or used search engine outside of our industry. Did you know though the difference between them and Google when it comes to user privacy? Google stores information on you, Duck Duck Go does not. Ever.

As you read through the list though, it's not hard to see why Google remains a major player.

Google penalizes sites for unnatural outbound linking

Google penalizes sites for unnatural outbound linking | Digital Marketing News | Scoop.it
Check your Google Search Console message center. Google sent out outbound link penalties over the weekend.
AMIRE Strategic Digital Marketing's insight:

So, this was in the news today - Google penalising sites for unnatural, get this, outbound links! People have been advised to check messages in their Google Search Console for manual actions.

We’ve heard/seen this in the past relating to unnatural links pointing to websites, whether it’s an algorithm penalty or a manual action. While this is surprising, you can expect a move like this from Google.

I wonder how it’s going to affect all those “mommy bloggers” out there?

Google's redesign of the AdWords platform is a looooong time coming. The last change to the interface was in 2008 so we are eagerly awating to see how this improves our workflow.

Google are stating that no changes will be made to the functionality of the platform, rather just the UI. In the "sneak peek" it closely resembles the UI of Google Tag Manager.

Google: AMP Not Yet A Search Ranking Signal

Google: AMP Not Yet A Search Ranking Signal | Digital Marketing News | Scoop.it

In December, Google said AMP might become a ranking signal. It is not yet, but it still may become a ranking factor when it is more widely launched.

AMIRE Strategic Digital Marketing's insight:

Late in 2015 the concept of Accelerated Mobile Pages was introduced. The AMP project is an open source project introduced by Google and Twitter, initially trialled with publishers. Its aim is to load web pages at a very fast speed to improve the user experience. The pages of a site are coded using specific mark-up, different CSS, no JavaScript and omitting specific HTML code to make them more light weight. These pages are then cached and Google hosted.

The AMP format, referred to as AMP HTML, is supported by a wide range of platforms, including Google Search. If a web page listed in Google's search results has a valid AMP version, search may direct mobile users to the cached AMP.

Aside from the coding aspect stated above schema mark-up will play a roll, pages will need to properly validate and Google will need to discover these via links.

How Google's Search Chief Has Been Living The "Mobile First" Life For Over A Year

How Google's Search Chief Has Been Living The "Mobile First" Life For Over A Year | Digital Marketing News | Scoop.it
Amit Singhal has been living his digital life mostly off his two smartphones for more than a year.
AMIRE Strategic Digital Marketing's insight:

Amit Singhal, Google's head of search, was interviewed to discuss how he lived off of his smartphones for a year. Frankly, we'd find it very difficult.

He's chronicalled how he managed to do almost everything on his mobile, but was hones when it came to the shortcomings he found as a user. Things such as having to write a long email, enter login details to sites he frequents or do a simple taks like cutting and pasting.

The key takeaway is the notion of type vs. tap devices. While mobile use is on the rise over desktop, there are still some shortcomings of using mobile only.

Why call tracking is vital for accurate attribution modelling | Digital Marketing News | Scoop.it
So you’ve deliberated, cogitated and digested to the point that your performance marketing strategy is like a finely oiled machine.
AMIRE Strategic Digital Marketing's insight:

As we continually advise, an integrated approach to marketing is key. We need to determine how we can leverage from other channels, for instance what can we learn from an SEO campaign that can be applied to paid, or vice versa?

The same can be said for outdoor, print, radio and TV. So it should come as no surprise how important attribution modelling is. This is particularly true for call tracking. Some businesses do want to drive phone calls, or at least have a point of contact for their consumer. So why not track that as a conversion?
